I was fortunate growing up to have had relatively good skin. I never really had breakouts and I didn't have to worry about the type of products I used.
Well, all of that changed when I was 30. A few months before turning 31, my skin decided it was time to change things up. Nothing had changed in my routine, in what I was eating, etc. I just got out of the shower one morning and BAM, my skin had majorly flared up and after that, my skin was never the same.
After almost 3 years of dealing with breakouts, or flare ups as I like to call them, finally in August of 2021, I made some changes to try and really figure out what was going on.
First, all new skin care. And not just new, but a super simplistic skin care routine. Secondly, I stopped washing my face in the shower (hot water is too harsh on your skin). Third, I bought entirely new makeup- threw out everything I had and started new and with a new brand (I'll share more on that in a future post). And lastly I became super focused on my water intake and made sure to drink plenty of water before and after I had any alcohol- hydration is key! Oh and I did pay attention to food and drinks to see if anything caused my skin to react and so far I've found that too much cheese will (especially since I don't really consume dairy) and certain types of beer).
The reason I share that is because I made these changes all at once so I don't want to falsely claim this skin care was the magical reason my skin has been better. Although it certainly helped and I do believe it gets major credit.
Let me first start by saying I've never bought a "celebrity" skincare or even makeup brand before. When Kristin Cavallari first introduced her beauty brand I really didn't have much interest at first. Now, her jewelry line, that's literally all I wear!
I had seen a few posts from people sharing their skin after using the line and I was pretty impressed. I also watched her talk about her skincare line in her stories and honestly it was very genuine and not pushy so she earned bonus points from me there. And since what I was doing clearly wasn't helping, I decided to give it a try knowing it was cruelty free and some products were also vegan.
I started using these products in August and continued for 3 months ONLY using these products.

After 2 weeks of using these, my skin was already clearing up and I wasn't experiencing any flare ups. Up until this point, my skin was having flare-ups almost every other day so this was a big deal for me. The simplicity of the routine made it really easy to stay consistent too.
These products are clean, very simple ingredients, cruelty free, and from my personal experience, very effective.
Let's get into the good stuff, yeah? I'll share these in order of how I use them.
Daily Foaming Cleanser
This is a powder cleanser which I love because you can control the consistency based on what you like. It's gentle on your skin while also exfoliating. I start by pouring a small amount into my hand then adding a little bit of water to get a lather. Again, this is where you can control the consistency with either more or less water to get the paste like consistency that you like. On days I wanted more of an exfoliant, I added less water. If you want less of an exfoliant, add more water to create less of a paste and more of a foaming cleanser (I show the difference in the video further down).
The exfoliant comes from rice bran which is really gentle on your skin and gives you the smooth and soft feeling. Papaya Enzymes clear clogged pores and remove dead skin cells.
Triple Effect Eye Cream
This eye cream is rich in vitamin C and provides a punch of hydration. It's creamy and luscious and a little bit goes a long way. I use my ring finger (less pressure) to dab the cream under my eye moving outward. I continue to dab lightly until it's absorbed.
The peptides and vitamin C help improve the smoothness of skin around your eyes to diminish lines and wrinkles. The hydration keeps your skin healthy and improves radiance.
Pineapple Peptide Nectar
This hydrating serum may just be my favorite. It's lightweight and loaded with vitamin C. I use 1-2 pumps and massage into my face, decollate, and neck. Ladies- don't skip your neck and chest! You want those areas to looks as smooth and youthful as your face!
The pineapple ceramides lock in moisture to keep your skin hydrated, even out skin tone, and give you a beautiful glow while also fighting signs of aging. Not to mention it smells amazing. This is also vegan.
Daily Water Cream
Ok, THIS might actually be my favorite. The name says it all- it's like water in cream form. It's incredibly lightweight and super hydrating. A little bit goes a long way with this too. I apply this to my face, neck, and chest and then I rub it into my hands after.
Coconut water keeps your skin nourished and moisturized. I've never used a cream like this- I seriously love it. It won't clog your pores and it will leave your skin feeling extra soft and smooth. This is also vegan.
Like I said earlier, for 3 months this is all I used and the results I had were pretty instant. Again, my skin was constantly flaring up. And when I say flaring up I mean that I always had what felt like surface level breakouts. My cheeks and all the way up to my forehead were covered in tiny red bumps. Some days they were minimal and other days it was really bad to the point my skin almost hurt. My skin also naturally has texture- most skin has texture, it's VERY normal to not look airbrushed. And while my skin is fair and cool toned, and I have a lot of redness in my cheeks.
These pictures are from before I started using the products. This was actually a "good" day but you can see the redness and bumps:
These pictures are from after using the skincare at the end of October:
I was shocked at how calm my skin became after a couple weeks. The redness was toned down a lot and my skin in general seemed to be more even and balanced. I had actually purchased a color correcting makeup stick that I had used on the areas where my skin was really red or bumpy and I haven't used it at all since using these products. To say I'm impressed with this beauty line is an understatement. I was blown away, because again for almost 3 years I had been struggling to figure out my skin. I was at the point of giving up and thinking I just had bad skin now.
Fun Fact- I've never been a fan of blush because my cheeks were already so red that adding blush really accentuated the redness. Now, blush is my favorite because I can actually use it!
I'm not an expert in skin or skin care at all. All skin is different and what works for one person doesn't always work for someone else. I grew up having combination skin and as I've gotten older it's shifted to sensitive and dry. I can't promise you this will help your skin BUT I do strongly think it's worth a try! I'm also understanding that less is more when our skin is acting out. I know I can get caught up in wanting to try all the serums and what not but after using these 4 products only, I realized simple really is best.
Now I did have one flare up during these 3 months but it was nothing like it used to be. It was the morning after having a large bowl of super creamy homemade mac n cheese. I don't eat very much dairy as I try to stick to plant based nutrition and my stomach isn't a big fan of dairy to begin with. My skin definitely reacted to all that cheese but it cleared up by end of the day too.
My official review of Uncommon Beauty is that I love it and highly recommend trying it! This would fall under a 'higher end' brand but it's priced relatively well. I'm actually testing out a new drug store priced skin care brand right now but after writing this post, I'm already ready to start this line up again!
Thanks for reading! Let me know if you've tried Uncommon Beauty or if you're want to try it!
More items will be added to the line in the Spring, I'll be sure to give those a try and report back!
